DIY Hanging terrarium

DIY Hanging terrarium

Terrariums are all the rage now – the simple structures ones from IKEA, the super fancy Victorian ones with stained glass, the copper ones from Urban Outfitters and Oliver Bonas. But what about a hanging terrarium? I’ve discovered these very affordable terrariums on eBay which work perfectly for this project, have a look!

What will you need to make one of these?
✓ a glass terrarium with some sort of hanging mechanism (mine was about £7.50 off eBay but unfortunately the seller doesn’t have any stock at the moment – this one or this one would also work perfectly though and are also very affordable!)
✓ a bracket (you can choose whatever bracket suits your style & taste – wooden ones are often super cheap so you can get it for about £2, mine was from this eBay seller and was more expensive but it’s a cast iron one which goes with my industrial home decor)
✓ a piece of rope (super cheap from B&Q, mine was a scrap from another project)
✓ screws, wall plugs and drill
✓ plant of choice (I picked Ceropegia Woodii – click here – also known as the vine of hearts for it grows quickly, it’s almost impossible to kill – they say, and the heart vines are just beautiful!)

This project is pretty self explanatory. The only thing to note is that you need to be careful not to overload the terrarium and to make sure that it’s sturdy enough to be handing with a load of soil and a plant in it. Apart from that – just enjoy this pretty contraption, I think it adds a very interesting touch to the whole look of the room!
