When people decide to go traveling, they always pick the same stereotypical destinations. If you want a romantic trip then you go to Paris; if you want a bachelor party then you go to Amsterdam; if you want to see wondrous new technology then you go to Japan. A place that doesn’t seem to be as popular a tourist destination as many other places in the world is the United Kingdom. It seems like a great shame, in all honesty, because it has so much to offer. Yes, it’s a place known for rain and cold weather but there’s more to traveling than sunshine and beach breaks.
England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. These four countries boast a wide array of cultural heritage and fantastic modern-day sights. We’re not going to look at all the places you can see in each of those countries but we are going to touch on some of the best cities and locations that these intriguing little islands have to offer. You’ll be surprised by how much can be packed into such a small space. Here are some reasons as to why more people need to visit the UK.
London, England
Let’s start with the most obvious city on the ‘To See’ list: London. Of course, there’s good reason for visiting this fantastic capital. It offers so much in terms of soaring skyscrapers, diverse cultures, and fantastic gardens such as Greenwich Park, as we’ve discussed before. There are also so many great events coming up. In fact, there are always great events coming up in London; it’s the capital. You’ll never be short of things to do in a visit here. It’s also not as hard to find reasonable accommodation as you might think. You could head over to sites such as cheaphotels4uk.com and browse through some options well in advance of your stay so that you get better deals.
Cambridge, England
Just one more suggestion if you are visiting England; go and see Cambridge. This stunning city has just as much (if not more) culture to its name as London. It’s not only the home of the second-oldest university on this side of the world but, as mentioned over at list25.com, it’s also the public research center for the United Kingdom. Don’t be fooled by the picturesque and tranquil nature of its appearance; there’s a lot going on in this city. You should try out a punting ride whilst you’re there; essentially, it’s Cambridge’s version of a Venetian gondola ride.
Edinburgh, Scotland
Of course, if you’d rather see somewhere other than England then one of the other beautiful countries the UK has to offer is Scotland. Whilst it’d be wonderful to see every place you could possibly see, you should definitely head to Edinburgh if you’re short on time. Whilst it may seem a little typical to go to the capital, this is a capital unlike any other. Whilst it’s a built-up city with many events taking place, there’s something calm, rural, and enchanting about this place. As mentioned over at touropia.com, there are many beautiful historic sites such as Edinburgh castle. It’s the hilly roads and glorious hills that really make this such a unique place, however.
