Christmas is the time of year in which gifts are something that can be expected, especially by little ones and cheeky friends who we love a lot. However, there’s a lot you can do for your house as well on the side! Here’s some ideas for pampering your surroundings, and thus yourself, just in time for Christmas to bring the cold weather and beautiful snows around with it.
Pump your kitchen with a fresh smell each day
This is where you can combine the two best parts of Christmas: decorating the house and eating a lot of good food. With Christmas right around the corner, it’s time to put your chef’s hat on and don your mother’s old apron. Plenty of baked goods exist in the form of gingerbread, your own family bread recipe, and the odd batch of cupcakes.
Walking into a house that smells like cinnamon or has the comforting tang of candy to it is always a good way to be greeted! If you have some free time around your work schedule, make sure you devote a bit of it to turning on the oven and whipping up some of these delicious treats we look forward to the rest of the year. If you have a surplus you can take them into work with you; think how impressed the boss will be!
Get some new curtains
This is good if you own a house that isn’t insulated very well or has a bit of draught problem that you’ve been trying to see to for a while. Buy yourself a pair of curtains, either made from insulated material or pick up some liners to serve that purpose on a pair of normal curtains, and then hang them up on all your windows to keep more warmth and coziness in a room!
You can even buy some luxury made to measure curtains if you want to be a little more indulgent with this, and let’s face it, a change of curtains is something your place has needed for a long time! It’s a good way to make the house feel less stale, and can even make the rooms smell and breath fresher (moths are a nuisance after all!).
Lay out your patchwork quilts
If you’re the kind of person who likes to take to knitting to help you focus, or it’s the hobby you indulge in after a hard day’s work, bring out your creations and sprinkle them around the house! It’s a good way to enjoy the things you’ve made, no matter how bad they look to you, and also make your rooms a lot cozier to sit in.
When you’re lounging on the sofa and don’t want to get up, you can just grab a blanket!
Grab a hot chocolate and cosy up under a throw, secure in the knowledge that your house looks and feels perfect. Maybe now is even the time to throw a party to show off and have fun with your friends in!
