Every year people in the fashion world are trying their best not to blink, so they can see the exact moment when a new trend was born. It’s regular like clockwork for this to happen during the summer months. This is because you’re free to wear however many layers or lack thereof, as you want. As you can imagine, when you have this kind of open canvas, there will be people experimenting in new ways. See-through trench coats were one of the trends last year and this year, something else has taken over. Beachwear has mixed with streetwear and something new has come out. Rather than wearing the classic bomber jacket with jeans, denim shorts and swimming trunks are the choice. Instead of trainers and sneakers, sandals and flip flops are being worth with joggers. A lot of different colors are being utilized. It looks like beachwear has won on this front as streetwear normally has darker and more pastel tones. After these two very different styles have collided, what can you expect to see someone fashionable wearing walking down the street this summer?
Not less but more discreet
Jewelry is one of the highlights of any summer fashion outfit. This is because the glint of silver and gold out in the sun adds a different layer of luxury but also carefree to your image. Instead of golden hoops, now Diamond Stud Earrings are being worn inside the ear and through the cartilage. Creating a vertical line, this jewelry stands out more and adds a little more depth to your outfit as a whole. With the blonde sandblasted hairstyle, the studs can easily be seen when the wind blows back your hair that’s over your ears. It’s not less jewelry purse, it’s just more discreet and more functional. You can swim in the sea and or swimming pool without having to take them off which again, suits them to the summer style.
The Californian wind
It must be said that most of this style is coming out of California. Notorious for some of the most popular beachwear attire, California is combining a New York streetwear with it’s own brand and style. One of them is the colorful beach shirt. No it’s not in the classic palm trees, ocean blue waves and golden sand beaches, it’s more so in a tie dye. Set more so in a groovy color palette, these shirts are to be worn without being buttoned. Hanging loose and perhaps one size too big, the shirts are worn with a normal t-shirt. There’s no exposing of the midriff, as that look would be too far off the summer style end negating the streetwear influence. However these shirts are easily worn with a pair of sky blue jeans as there is a section of streetwear that is summer-friendly. White sneakers would also go well with this shirt design.
Don’t kick the bucket
Hats are part and parcel of summer style but it’s not quite what a streetwear style would recommend. However to offset certain summer hats, you have plenty of lower body options. But first, the summer bucket hat is going to be needed in your wardrobe. A deep hat, made out of synthetics, it has a strong structure which allows the hat to stand tall. It can be purely one shade of bright blue, orange or any other summer fruits shade but just like the shirt it can also be tie dyed. You can also go for the 1990s summer waves look with pink, blue and a dark purple dyed onto the sides and top of the hat.
To offset this extremely sunny day look, you can wear a plain white t-shirt or even a synthetic bomber jacket. Usually the bomber jacket can be accompanied with a beanie, but the bucket hat is a great merging option for these two styles. Be sure to keep the bomber jacket in a darker tone so as to not overshadow the streetwear style.
From the bottom up
As mentioned California is heading up this trend but that doesn’t mean those that love streetwear can’t have a day. Most of the beachwear can be worn on the upper body such as vests, t-shirts, casual shirts and crop tops etc. Yet you can easily see why streetwear is going to be more practical in this merger. Start off with white sneakers, or possibly cream. Light pink and pastel shades are also recommended. With a flat but thick bottom curve of the shoe, the sneakers will stand out more and urban. Next you can combine the sneakers with a dark denim and ripped or ribbed pattern. Try not to go too dark, a navy blue is better than a night sky blue for example.
To then make the merger happen at the waist, you can wear a leather summer belt. With a golden or brass buckle, a leather belt is great for a summer outfit. The belt style comes from the hottest parts of the Wild West, hence why it’s worn heavily in California. A lighter suede belt is also a good option as it’s kind of in the middle. Some streetwear does utilize the material suede but mainly for shoes.
The classic summer sound
A summer outfit would not be complete without some kind of jewelry on your wrist. The classic golden bangles or summer bracelet would be brilliant with this kind of merging fashion. The trouble is both styles tend to take the spotlight over each other if not done correctly. So you have to go with certain staples of each style, such as dark denim, bomber jacket and sneakers for the streetwear style, and tie die shirts, summer hats, sandals and of course arm jewelry. Try out a seashell bracelet that is connected by a golden chain.
Who would have thought that these two styles would have collided to make the hottest summer trend of this year? Summer beachwear can go well with urban streetwear but you have to be careful to not overshadow one over the other.
