Mylo: Slovak beauty brand you need to try

Mylo: Slovak beauty brand you need to try review

I honestly feel that one of the biggest things that affected me when I moved back to the Czech Republic was the way people view the world around them. There is a strong sense of anti-consumerism in the community here. Eco-friendly, natural and locally made are becoming not just a luxury but a requirement. There are shops in the sizes of a small supermarket offering natural beauty products. Second hand clothing is the norm for many people.

And I honestly admire that and have been learning to pick up as many intentional habits as I possibly can. Which has also reflected in this blog. In search for my new, natural beauty routine, I’ve come across many brands. One of them being Anemone (read my review of the best body butter EVER). The second one I need to introduce to you is Mylo. An all natural, handmade beauty brand based in Slovakia.

5 reasons you need to try Mylo beauty

The brand was born from true love for nature and tradition

Mylo is a brand that was born in 2012 in Slovakia where a lovely lady called Barb was gifted a book about traditional soap-making by her friend. She figured that the recipes were so good and the products she created with them were so effective yet so simple that she simply had to recreate them for everyone. She’s created a whole range of natural based products including even products for your four-legged side kicks. Yeah, it’s a paw cream. A bloomin’ PAW CREAM! Read her whole story on her website.

The formulas are all natural, handmade but dermatologically tested

Mylo products are made out of 99% natural ingredients and the ingredients are often fair-trade or certified in various ways. These products certainly don’t have that ‘homemade’ feel to them though, they feel proper luxurious. One of the reasons being is that they are all dermatologically tested and certified. Even the pet products have been approved by the Vet Association. What I find particularly heart-warming is that some of the herbs are home-grown by Barb in her own garden! How amazing is that!

The products are simple and that’s enough

The range is not particularly huge. They currently offer less than 40 products yet the range encompasses literally every need your skin could possibly have. The point is not to have a different product for every single ailment your skin might suffer from. Mylo gives you just a couple of products that you actually need. I don’t ever feel confused whether I should pick this foot cream or that foot cream because you really do need just one (and it’s this one by the way).

The packaging is absolutely beautiful, not just to minimalists

The packaging is made out of recycled paper or glass and is ultimately recyclable again. Or you can reuse the packaging for whatever you want because it’s ever so simple and sleek and you can wash the labels off and it’s completely unbranded, just deep amber jars and bottles. The labels are super minimalist too, with no harsh colours and in very muted tones.

The prices are not outrageous

Finally the prices. You’d think that handmade beauty products that feel this luxurious and have so many active ingredients in them are going to cost you an arm and a leg. The truth is they are extremely affordably priced for what they are. I shop for them on the NuSpring website and the products range from about £4 to £20 for the pricier products, usually in larger sizes.

They do not ship to the UK at the moment however I totally recommend you pick up some when in Prague for a weekend break. You can order the products online here and you can pick them up the following day in a shop in the city centre (and there’s not shipping cost for that), which is super convenient!
