You may have heard all about the latest rage, “side hustles”. These are small jobs on the side of our full-time jobs that allow us to pocket some extra income.
Side hustling has become popular in recent years with younger workers as a means to buy a house, increase their savings, build a pension fund or just to have some spare cash for fun. Stagnant salaries and increasing living expenses have made side hustles a must for some of us.
There are many ways we can earn an extra income but not all are lucrative enough to make them plausible. Here are some side jobs that pay well in 2020, so well you might start thinking about starting your own business.
1. Teaching English Online
Countries in Asia, especially China, are seeing a huge boom in their online teaching industry. Native English speakers are now in high demand as a result and the pay is extremely rewarding for those that do decide to become an online teacher.
All you need to do is have proof of your college degree, complete a TEFL course, and then apply online via one of the many schools. Once applied you will be asked for a short interview followed by a mock class before being hired.
Once hired you will receive some training and you will usually start teaching immediately. The pay can be anything from $14-40 per hour depending on your experience and quality of your demo.
2. Freelance Writing
You don’t need to be a wizard with words to become a freelance writer. As long as you have a good grasp of English grammar you will be fine. Decide on what you would like to write about, set up a profile on UpWork and once accepted you can start to bid for various writing projects.
You can expect to earn anything from $5-30 per hour as a beginner. That’s not bad money for a bit of writing that can be done after work or over the weekend. All you need is a laptop, internet connection, and some coffee to get started.
Topics can include anything from health, beauty, wellness, finance, travel, food, information management, sport, and fitness. Try to pick a topic you enjoy so that it never seems like much of a job.
3. Virtual Assistant
Due to today’s advanced technology, assistants can now work completely remotely for their employers. They can schedule meetings, book flights, complete data entry tasks, and update workflows and calendars all from the comfort of their bed.
You can now also take advantage of a virtual assistant role as a side job. You could help a busy CEO with their everyday admin with flexible hours and great pay. You can expect to earn anything from $15-50 an hour depending on who you are working with and previous experience.
A virtual assistant job can be very flexible allowing you to choose your own working hours and fitting it around your current work schedule. Depending on your boss, some virtual assistants get rewarded with extra bonuses too.
