Do you remember when Cookie fell in love with Thrive freeze dried shrimp treats? They were literally the best treats in the whole wide world. Not only were they delicious. But they were also super healthy for the cats, because they contained 100% shrimps, nothing more. The sad thing is that they don’t sell these in Prague. So we’ve been on a lookout for something similar. There are lots of 100% organic and raw kind of treats, but none of them are shrimpsies. Cookie’s well sad. So when I saw a similarly looking tub of gently freeze dried salmon by Cosma, I had to pick it up for him.
? Gently Freeze-Dried Salmon by Cosma
Apart from the very similarly looking packaging, the contents of the tub as well as the philosophy of this brand are in line with Thrive. Cosma Pure Love is a German-based brand of premium cat food which offers food made out of 100% natural ingredients. It is completely free from artificial preservatives, aromas and taste enhancers. Which would be hard to argue with since the treats are 100% pure salmon. In addition to the great ingredients (there is a higher amount of fat but that is purely due to the fact that they are salmon treats and fishies are fatty), these treats come in an XXL size. That means they are a little bigger than regular feeds. They are still super soft and airy though so they are easy to gobble down.
The cats are as pleased as a punch. And so am I. The Cosma treats are a little more expensive than other treats you get in pet stores here in Prague but I’d rather pay a little more and get a 100% premium quality that I know won’t ruin my cats’ health. Well done Cosma on making these dreamy treats! Next up can you please make some shrimps for us?

Ingredients: 100% salmon
Analytical components: Protein 61,0 %, fat content 33,0 %, ash 4,2 %.
Price: £2.99 for 22g (the cubes are super light weight though)
You can buy these treats on Zoohit here (CZ) or Zooplus here (UK).
CATS OFF THE CARBS – THE CORNERSTONE OF FELINE FOODOLOGY
This series was inspired by a book called Cats off the Carbs by Jenny Evans, the owner of CatPacks. Sadly the book is no longer available to buy. I’m eternally grateful to own a copy myself and be able to share Jenny’s knowledge with you. The key message of this book is that a good cat food is:
High in animal protein
Moderate in fat
Low in carbohydrates
What are you feeding your cats at the moment? Have you ever tried reading the labels & deciphering what they mean?
? I don’t claim to be an expert in cat food. All my knowledge I gathered from Jenny’s book, the internets and my own personal experience. However I’m genuinely hoping this series will help others understand the importance of proper cat food.
