At this time of the year, we’re all starting to think about winding down a little and enjoying some slower moments with our friends and family. After a busy and devastating year, it’s nice to try and change the pace a little and focus on what we’re most grateful for. However, at the same time, we may also find ourselves thinking about all of the things that we want to work on too. There’s nothing like the end of the year to make you think ahead to what you want to achieve within the next twelve months. And even if you’re not overly thinking about this all that seriously, it can be exciting to think about all the goals you want to work on and fun you want to have.
When you really love your home, this is something that you will want to make sure that you are putting at the top of the list. Yes, when it comes to goals, we can all often find ourselves thinking about things like health and careers – but goals and dreams can definitely cover home and family life too. When you know that you’d like to be able to make some home repairs, get a few big jobs done or changes to your décor, why not start to think about planning that now? You could get started as early as January or spend the winter through til spring getting your home together! So why not let these ideas inspire you?
1. Have a huge clear out
To start with, you may find that you want to have a bit of a clear out. When you know that you’ve accumulated a lot of things or different rooms and storage spaces have got messy, it’s nice to have a fresh start at the start of the year and get it all organized.
2. Get to cleaning
From here, you may find that you want to be able to have a huge clean of the house too. This is definitely something that we all want to do as winter comes to an end. But when you’ve had a clear out, it can reveal areas that you need to work on and get into shape. So maybe plan your spring clean a little earlier.
3. Do some repair work
Maybe you even have different things around the house that you need to work on? It could be that you have a lightbulb that you need to change, a door that needs oiling, or even a crack in the wall that needs covering. But it’s a great idea for you to try and work on that now.
4. Shake up your decor
At this point, you may even be looking at your interiors and thinking that you’d like to change your décor. It’s easy enough to change your accent colours or bring in a bit of paint to really jazz up a space. You’ll be surprised by what a difference these small changes can make.
5. Replace furniture
As a step on from that, you may also want to take a look at some of the furniture and equipment and machinery that you have around the home. Do you need to replace it? Maybe you need a new washing machine or bed? No matter what it is, if there are some larger pieces that you’d like to replace, maybe this is what you can work on for now?
6. Organizing the outside
From here, you might even want to get outside and see what kind of changes you can make out there too. You’ll often find that there’s a lot that you’re able to do. When you’re spending a lot of time looking out of the winter or out into the garden when it’s not really looking its best, it can motivate you to want to change things. So as we get a bit closer to spring, you might want to do a bit of a clean up out there, some pressure washing, and tidy away things you no longer need. It makes such a huge difference.
7. Consider bigger plans
Finally, it could be that you also want to work on something much bigger than some of the smaller chores you’ve managed to work through. When you’re starting to clean and organize and really change your interiors, it makes you think of what you can do next. So maybe you want to plan some much bigger, transform your home and make more exciting changes? It could be that you want to build an extension or move. And this might not be something that you can get done in one season but you can certainly plan for it.
